Presentations and Workshops

As a Teaching Artist with Teachers & Writers Collaborative, I perform residencies in creative writing and give professional development workshops. (In the past, I have been a creative writing and literature instructor at Stanford and an ESL teacher at Charles University in Prague.)

I have presented on the subject of comics and education at the American Library Association‘s annual conference, Northwestern University’s Graphic Novel Institute, the New York City School Department of Library Services, and the Miami Book Fair International.

I am interested in the teaching of graphic novels to help students master new media skills and traditional language arts skills — as well as to empower them as culture creators in their own right. Most recently, I co-taught a workshop on writing and reading the graphic novel to MFA students at the Solstice MFA program at Pine Manor College.

The Graphic Novel Reporter interviewed me about my work in comics.
